We reported on October 8 about bit.ly offering QR code generation by adding.qr to the end of bit.ly shortened URLs. On October 13 bit.ly actually announced their new service. We initially wrote that the bit.ly QR code was too cumbersome and not truly optimized. Since then bit.ly made changes that have resulted in better, cleaner codes with still private analytics.
Using the same shortened URL from our last example, we can now compare the updated code with the optimized example from our last bit.ly comparison.
bit.ly QR codes as of this time appear seem the better choice for generating URL shortened QR codes, but don’t forget that there are several other types of QR codes that are not generated by bit.ly or goo.gl.
